VISION
Our vision is for an active and sustainable community association which will host community events to help raise funds and awareness for charities which work within 1066 Country. Our registered teams will feel valued as they play their full part within this association.
MISSION
1066 Country, Relay Fundraisers pursues this vision by supporting community team members to develop their fundraising skills through hosting fun, community events. Which as well as bringing in community spirit will in return raise awareness and funds for the benefiting charities of the year.
PRINCIPLES AND BELIEFS
1066 Country, Relay Fundraisers work is underpinned by a number of principles and beliefs.
We believe In the importance of “community”, in a world where so many people are isolated and marginalised.
That racial, religious and social diversity (or difference) adds value to our society, and that everyone has the right to equality of opportunity.
That we as a community organisation can help to empower our chosen charities and contribute towards their continued valued work within our society.
In the value of voluntary activity in the distinctiveness that we can play a wider voluntary role in supporting our community by encouraging togetherness.
In the value of community development as a process, which gives confidence and skills to people who are learning to run fundraising events. With the intention of bringing people together whilst fundraising for charitieswithin our 1066 Country.
In working in partnership with organisations that share similar values in order to maximise resources and influence. (June 2011) We are still recruiting 2 places on our committee:- We are looking for a sectary (To help with the admin side of all our work) This should not take up to much time of your life and you would be working alongside Nicola and a internet advertisement chair (Some one who has the skills to look after the website - up date as needed and is able to sit at a computer and arrange our advertising through various sites)
MEET THE COMMITTEE
Making Relay a success takes time and effort from a group of volunteers that make up the managing committee. We are all lucky enough to have the support from our sub event committee and the youth committee. Each person gives as much time as they are able to commit. If you have a few spare hours a month and would like to be involved with the events re organising, planning or hands on work on the day please get in touch. The more people that we have on board, the better the event will be.
Chairperson-
Nicola Evans, Nicola has been on the Committee for the last four years, first as Team Recruitment and as Vice Chair. Nicola's background is in nursing, and currently works at Spire Sussex Hospital as a HCA and in the past worked at St Michaels Hospice as a bank HCA. She has a background in events and theatre, studied BTEC National Diploma Performing Arts, and in her spare time has worked at The Phoenix Arts Centre and is a member of the Shades Christian Theatre Company.
Team Recruitment officer
– Helen Nicola It is Helen’s 2nd year with the Relay Committee, although she has taken part in the last two Relay For Life Hastings. Helen’s reason for taking part and now joining the Committee is her teenage son who had cancer. She said: 'If it was not for CRUK my son would not be alive today. His treatment plan was for eight treatments of chemo, but the hospital then changed this plan saying that he did not need that last treatment. When demanding to know why. I heard the words ‘research shows it is not necessary and could be detrimental to Georges own cancer diagnosis.' This now gives me the determination to help others by supporting 1066 Country, Relay Fundraisers in our work.”
Treasurer
- Helen Barraclough,It is Helen’s third year on the Relay Committee. Helen answered a plea for help with finance. Relay is run by volunteers, workingto our various talents. Money and accounts is not one of them! Helen’s background is in banking and accounting and she is doing a great job at making sure your money raised gets passed onto the charities. Helen also helps to marshal at Race for Life too, so you may have seen her before. It was at Race For Life where she heard about us.
VIP officer
- Pam Shadbolt Now in her fourth year, Pam has enjoyed herself so much after retiring she does not know how she had the time to hold a job. Pam is a retired McMillan nurse, is a supporter of the Sarah Lee Trust and 1066 Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Support Group. Pam has enjoyed getting to know our guests of Honour and socialising with you at our Relays. She turns her hand to everything, so if you are approached by her to get involved in Relay for other aspects of the event, don't be shocked! Pam is spending 2011 overseeing our Fun Dog Show at the Oval.
Youth Representative
- George Nicola. This is Georges 2nd year of helping to organise the events. He is full of great fundraising ideas and especially takes interest in what the youth would find fun to do at our events.
